If you want a reason to buy a new HDTV TV, to watch the latest high definition broadcasts it's worth noting that free HD TV channels will soon be available on satellite TV (SKY) and BBC TV. High definition TV is about to sweep UK TV, and only people with a HD-Ready Plasma TV or HDTV LCD will be able to watch it. Recently the BBC announced that it will run HDTV trials of it's most popular BBC1 programs such as BBC News, Eastenders and Little Britain - on both satellite and cable. Even BT (British Telecom) are getting in on the HDTV revolution, announcing plans to launch some kind of Pay-per-view HDTV series during 2006, this will also incorporate a PVR set-top box, similar to SKY+, and will be subscription only.

The BBC plans to provide all of it's free HDTV channels (probably on Freeview), when analogue TV is switched off, which if all goes to plan will be between 2008 and 2012. The BBC already shoots most of it's footage on HD camera's, as the US and Japanese markets are already advancing with HDTV technology. By 2010 the BBC aims to move all production to high definition. SKY TV, on the satellite network will also be introducing HDTV to it's customers, and has already launched it's high definition broadcasts to subscribers on SKY, cable, satellite and NTL.
